I finally got to take Diane back to my old stomping grounds at UNC Chapel Hill. We based the eating portion of our trip on Rachael Ray's $40 A Day trip, and started our day here at Mama Dip's. |
Good luck comes to those who take a drink from the Old Well in passing. |
Our Rachael Ray inspired lunch of barbecue at the Barbecue Joint turned out to be one of the best meals I can remember. Excellent barbecue! |
Diane relaxes in the window seat at our hotel in the nearby town of Hillsborough. |
Ah, at last the truth comes out. We came to Hillsborough to attend a local bookshop's Harry Potter book release party. Everyone gets dressed up and whatnot. Here is a girl dressed as a Howler. Her front side featured an envelope flap that opened and she did an uncanny impression of Mrs. Weasley's voice from the Howler in the second movie. |
It's Harry, Ginny and a slightly younger Hermione. |
This gentleman was a thestral keeper (note that you can't actually see the thestral unless you've experienced death) and his grandson was the Monster Book of Monsters. |
Here we have Professor Trelawney, the divination teacher, and Madame Hooch, the flying instructor. |
Ah, young Luna Lovegood with her best wide-eyed blank stare. |
Finally, after the stroke of midnight, Diane holds her prized trophy of the evening. |
We stopped to eat the next day at an Irish pub that didn't turn out to be such a great find. That's what we get for straying off the Rachael Ray path! |
