The Proposal

Thursday, December 18, 2003 - After returning from an enchanting evening at the drive-in, we came home to a beautiful oceanfront condo in Fort Lauderdale. We were both tired, so Diane went to change into her pajamas and I kicked off my shoes and went onto the balcony to enjoy the warm ocean breeze and the view... The stars were out in full force; the ocean was calm and soothing. I had been carrying the ring in my pocket all day, waiting for the right time to pop the question... Suddenly I figured... what spot more perfect than a balcony overlooking the ocean?

I went back inside and asked Diane to come out onto the balcony with me. She came out to the railing in front of me, and I hugged her from behind as we gazed at the stars and listened to the slow crashing of the waves. I asked her to have a seat on the stool beside us, having no idea what I was going to actually say when the moment came. I took a knee in front of her, took out the ring, she stopped breathing, and the words just came out of me...

"I love you so much... You truly are the best thing that has ever happened to me... I would be honored if you would be my wife... Diane, will you marry me?"

When she started breathing again, I got a "yes" and a huge hug!
